WHEELING - A woman and a man are facing charges after being arrested in connection with a Friday night shooting in downtown Wheeling.
Shavonda Bradley, 34, of Wheeling was arrested for allegedly carrying a concealed and deadly weapon. And Billy Gene Torres, 28, of New York was arrested for allegedly being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
At 10:59 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the area of 16th and Market streets for a report of shots being fired. They recovered spent shell casings in the area of the 15th Street alley and Lane B, which is the alley between Market and Main streets. Officers also found two handguns allegedly belonging to Bradley and Torres.
''There were shots fired, but nobody was injured,'' Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said.
He said the shooting is under investigation and he did not yet have details about what led to the incident. He noted this is the second downtown Wheeling shooting to occur since he took the chief position last summer. During that unrelated incident, Cordale Williams, 32, of Wheeling allegedly attempted to shoot a man during an argument about a woman in the 7-Eleven parking lot on Market Street at about 1:30 a.m. June 22.
