Wilma Rentschler

RENTSCHLER, Wilma Schafer, 98, of Wheeling died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 16, 2012.

She was born April 5, 1914, on Palm Sunday, at her home on Big Wheeling Creek in Marshall County to William and Carrie Klages Schafer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Rentschler, Sr., and two brothers, Harry and Carl.

She attended Britt Run School through eighth grade and graduated from Triadelphia High School in 1932. She then attended Elliott's Commercial School and worked in the office of Dieckmann Florist.

She married Frederick Rentschler on June 30, 1938, and lived on Big Wheeling Creek Road until 1944, when they moved to the Elm Grove section of Wheeling.

She was a life-long member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wheeling.

An active worker for Meals on Wheels since its inception in 1971, she delivered meals for many years and served as treasurer for the organization's first 30 years.

She is survived by three children; Louise Rogers of Port Clinton, Ohio, Carolyn (Paul) Bennett of Levittown, Pa., and Fred Rentschler (Lynette Parker) of Wheeling; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, andfour great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home 166 Kruger Street (304-242-2311) and also on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. in the chapel of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Reverend R. Paul Schafer officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
