SWORDS, Evelyne M., 96, formerly of New Martinsville, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.

She was born July 2, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late James Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Kessler Curtin.

She was a retired florist from Quiniff's Florist; a bridal consultant for Lilly's Crown Jewelry Store; a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; Quota Club; New Martinsville PEO; received a business degree from Moser College; a diamontologist; master flower judge; former president of the West Virginia State Garden Club; an associate with Oglebay Garden Center; and a West Virginia artist having art in Mountainmade and her own shows.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Dennis Swords; a sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Sam Stahl; and a brother and sister-in-law Howard and Lillian Curtin.

Survivors include seven children: Michael Dennis Swords of Kalamazoo, MI, Mary Patricia (Mark) Bonhard of Newbury, OH, James Thomas (Suzanne) Swords of Belpre, OH, Gregory Lee (Rebecca) Swords of Wheeling, Timothy Patrick Swords of League City, TX, Kathleen Elizabeth (Jay) Smith of Proctor, and John Terrance (Lisa) Swords of Clarington, OH; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville.

Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 21 Rosary Road, New Martinsville, with Fr. John McDonough as celebrant.

Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oglebay Garden Center, 465 Lodge Drive, Wheeling, WV 26003.
