Charles Longwell

LONGWELL, Charles C., age 90, of Sardis, Ohio, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at his home.

He was born August 25, 1922 in Sardis, the son of the late John and Anna Halderman Longwell.

Charles was a WWII U.S. Army veteran with Company C 785th Military Police Battalion; a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Sardis; a retired rodding room employee of Ormet Corp. in Hannibal, Ohio, and a proud member of the United Steelworkers Union of America. He loved farming.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Lea Longwell; and a grandson, Charles Longwell.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Alice McPeek Longwell; two sons, Floyd (Ann) and Charles (Kathy), both of Woodsfield, Ohio; two daughters, Anita (Larry) Lemon of New Martinsville, WV and Linda (John) Vargo of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound Street, Sardis.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 39220 CR 10, Sardis, with Rev. Richard Wilson and Rev. Cathy Harman officiating.

Interment to follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sardis where military graveside services will be conducted.
