Nancy McCoy

McCOY, Nancy Ellen James, died Sunday, January 6, 2013, in Wheeling with family and friends gathered around.

She was born in Wheeling on December 21, 1922, and grew up in Warwood, graduating from Warwood High School in 1940.

After attending Business College, she served as an executive secretary at Wheeling Electric Co. for some 10 years until the time of her marriage to W. Gibson McCoy of Wheeling. Together they partnered to establish a warm and loving home for their family and friends and operated McCoy Funeral Homes for some fifty years until retirement in the 1990s. Her faith in Christ and faithfulness to His church were evident in her day to day life and provided the foundations for the faith of her children and grandchildren.

Nancy was a church organist for well over 50 years, serving at Warwood Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church, Wheeling and Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. She was active in the community in providing accompaniment for area school music programs and church activities. In addition to her extensive church activity, she was active in King's Daughters, Ohio Valley General Twig and the Jacaranda Jills golf league.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, W. Gibson McCoy in 2008, and a sister, Sara James Lash in 2011.

Surviving are her daughter, Judy McCoy Crews and her husband, Darryl; her son, the Rev. Dr. William G. McCoy and his wife, Mary Hopkins McCoy; a brother, Robert James of Sarasota, FL; as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Thursday, January 10, from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church, 1307 Chapline St., Wheeling, with Rev. Robert Willits and her son, the Rev. Dr. William McCoy officiating.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the C3 Church, 250 Bethany Pike, Wheeling.
