SCHUNN, Matthew G. Sr., 92, of Martins Ferry, OH, joined his late wife Eva E. (Altman) Schunn, Jan. 14, 2013. He was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Martins Ferry a son of the late Mathias and Anna (Tartler) Schunn.
Matt retired from the Kroger Company. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post No. 38 and the former Eagles all of Martins Ferry. Matt was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he served as an aerial gunner.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son Francis W. Schunn; an infant daughter; and a brother Arthur W. Schunn.
Surviving are his son, Matthew G. (Tisha) Schunn Jr. of Martins Ferry; a brother Robert A. (Judy) Schunn of Miromar, FL; grandchildren Matt (Bethany) Schunn and Kara (Zac) Shutler, Barry (Jennifer) Schunn and Aimee (Mike) Masters; great grandchildren Leah and Luke Shutler, Jeremiah Schunn, Isabella Schunn, and Lillian, Lydia, and Leah Masters; and his cats "Mixie," "Pixie" and "Dixie."
Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, where services will be held Jan. 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Philip Van Dam officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
Military honors will be presented by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral.
