Nancy Shaffer

SHAFFER, Nancy Huddle, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 16, 2013.

She was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Huddle, and the wife of Dr. Frank L. Shaffer, Jr., a retired United Methodist minister.

She was born on October 31, 1933 in Charleston, WV.

As a young woman, Nancy was a majorette at Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV. She graduated from Wittenburg University in Springfield, OH. As a young woman living in New York, she worked in the garment district and as a secretary in the Zoology Department at Columbia University. In her later years, she was an interior designer for Stone and Thomas in Wheeling.

Nancy had a beautiful singing voice and performed with an opera quartet, and with the Parkersburg Choral Society. She was director of church choirs in Vienna, Williamstown and Wheeling, WV.

As a Christian, she was always in her place at Sunday Worship, attending many workshops and study groups. Her love of history, especially that of the church, informed her faith and commitment, which she shared with all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her younger brother, Captain Charles Huddle, who died in the Vietnam War.

In addition to her husband, Nancy was survived by her children, Jennifer Shaffer of Wheeling, Vanessa McConnell of Pittsburgh, PA and Charles Shaffer of Morgantown, WV. She was the grandmother of five: Caitlin McConnell of New York City, Mary and Grace McConnell and Jesse Shaffer all of Pittsburgh, PA and Siobhan Shaffer of San Diego, CA.

Friends will be received on Friday, January 18, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Rd, Wheeling (304 232 2732). Friends will then be received on Saturday, January 19, 2013, from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 1232 National Rd, Wheeling with the Reverend Dr. Timothy Allen and the Reverend Margie Carr officiating.

Interment in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Mt Olivet, WV.
