LEWIS, Betty L., 79, of Moundsville, WV, was called to our Lord, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born August 2, 1933, in Glen Dale, WV, a daughter of the late Ludwig and Rose Brednick Rakoskie.

Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Moundsville. She loved all her family and friends, and enjoyed cooking for them and spending time with them. She loved animals, and fed the rabbits and birds in her yard. Her chocolate lab, Sara, was her beloved friend and companion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, L.R. "Dick" Lewis; four brothers: John, Chester, Carl and Tony Rakoskie; a sister, Helen Vargo; a grandson, Joseph Lewis; four sisters-in-law: Sarah Lewis, Louise Buzzard, Stella Rakoski and Margaret "Bobbie" McCulley; two brothers-in-law, John Groogan and Chester "Chet" Berry; and a niece, Martha Buzzard.

Surviving are three sons: Col. Dennis (Pam) Lewis of Burke, VA, Dr. Garry (Sue) Lewis of Glen Dale and Richard C. Lewis of Moundsville; two daughters, Michele (Nick) Gordon of Orlando, FL, and Teresa (Bill) Vermeulen of Clarkston, MI; two sisters, Louise A. Berry of Moundsville and JoAnn Groogan of Nashville, TN; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, where Rosary devotions will be held at 7 p.m.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. Symeon Galazka, TOR, as celebrant.

Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
