Alberta Niehaus

NIEHAUS, Alberta M., 94, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, in Wheeling Hospital.

She was born December 25, 1918, in Wheeling, a daughter to the late Albert and Flora (Kennedy) Coutz. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Wheeling. She was a volunteer for the Senior Citizens Satellite Service of Triadelphia, Mt. Olivet, and Sherrard, W.Va., for which she received many awards for her years of service. She was also an active member of Meals on Wheels even into her nineties.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Niehaus, one brother, Wilbert Coutz, one grandson, Richard Bowers, and one son-in-law, Gaylord Bowers.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Bowers, Rita (Curtis "Al") Bowers, and Donna (Patrick) Milliken; one son, Dan Niehaus; four grandchildren, Erin, Jeff, Lisa, and Rebecca; eight great-grandchildren, Nikki, Wilson, Jessica, Justin, Jenna, Kiersten, Kolten, and Kyla; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Friday, February 8, 2013, from 2-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Wheeling, with Rev. Dennis Schuelkens Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
