Country Roads Physical Therapy Opens Door

February 11, 2013

WHEELING - Physical therapist Kevin Perris hopes local athletes and others will take advantage of the new Country Roads Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation in Elm Grove.

Located at 2080 National Road, Country Roads opened last week. Perris said for now he is the only PT on site, but as business increases he hopes to hire more therapists.

Perris, a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University's physical therapy program, is the center's director and primary therapist. He also has additional training and certification in a newer therapy called "dry needling," which uses acupuncture needles to alleviate muscle pain caused by knots or trigger points.

"It's not acupuncture, but it uses an acupuncture needle. You put the needle into the muscle and it resets it and relaxes it," Perris said. "It gives pretty immediate results and improves range of motion."

Perris said to receive therapy there, people must have a referral from their doctor or dentist. He noted his areas of specialty are the neck and back, but Country Roads offers therapy for those who have had any type of orthopedic surgery, as well as sports injuries.

"I would like to see athletes from Wheeling Jesuit University, Bethany College and West Liberty University and the local high schools," Perris said.

Perris said he has experience treating professional and college athletes. While he worked at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, he had the opportunity to treat some Pittsburgh Steelers football players.

Country Roads has three other West Virginia locations: two in Fairmont and one in Buckhannon. Perris said the Wheeling location was opened because the company's owners - Michael Barkley and Derek Falkenstein - felt there was a need for more physical therapy care in the region.

The office's current operating hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information, call 304-905-8140.

"I appreciate the commitment Derek, Mike and all of their team members have to individualized treatment," Perris said. "We're eager to bring that level of care to people in and around Wheeling. At Country Roads, you receive personal attention and progressive treatment directly from a certified therapist. You are not left alone and expected to perform exercises that you could do on your own at home."
