Two Wellsburg men to be arraigned in federal court this week face life in prison if convicted of the charges against them. If they are guilty, that is precisely what should happen to them.
U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld revealed the two men are accused of selling heroin to a Follansbee man who overdosed on the drug and died in March 2011.
Federal law provides that in cases in which illegal drug distribution results in a death, those guilty can be sent to prison for life.
"We need to send a message to the distributors," Ihlenfeld said of the charges. He is absolutely right. Now, let's hope federal authorities can do the same to those who allegedly sold heroin to the Wellsburg men.
