WEIRTON - It was Senior Night on Monday inside the Carl Hamill Field House and things couldn't have worked out better for Weir High's basketball team.

Mike Granato's club reeled off 11 straight points to break open a tight contest (there were 16 lead changes before the Red Riders run) and dispose of John Marshall, 59-43.

"I told the kids after practice Saturday that our four seniors deserved a night like (Monday)," Granato said. "I also told them everyone should work their tails off to give them that. They (the seniors) have given our program everything they have.

"We all wish we could have won more games but our seniors never quit. They have great character. Teams that are 1-19 don't play with the kind of effort we showed."

John Marshall (5-15) took a 39-37 lead early in the final stanza thanks to a Ryan Davis 3-pointer. From there, it was all Weir.

Senior Dylan Cassiadoro knotted the score when he converted an Andre Sims pass into two points. Sims put the Riders up for good, 41-39, scoring from the paint off an assist from senior Shane Davis. A third senior, Josh Groves, recorded a deuce after a nifty pass from Michael Curtis.

Sims knocked down 3 of 4 free throws and Shane Davis scored off a long pass from Curtis to finish the burst and put the Riders up 48-39. The fourth Riders senior, Nate Masters, making his irst start, stretched the advantage to 56-41 on his drive to the hoop.

In outscoring the Monarchs 24-11 during the final frame, Weir knocked down 10 of 15 field goal tries.

Sims paced the Riders in scoring with 18. Shane Davis added 12 and recorded four steals. Cassiadoro finished with 10.

Ryan Davis had 11 for John Marshall. Filben added 10.
