Joseph Bumgardner

BUMGARDNER, Joseph, 85, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Peterson Rehabilitation Center.

He was born April 16, 1927, in Wheeling, a son to the late George and Marie Bumgardner.

He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Wheeling and was a former employee of the Bond Bakery. He was a volunteer at the Salvation Army and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Bumgardner and Betty Bumgardner Desmond.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews, including Paul (Jeanette) Desmond of Wheeling, David (Bertha) Cole of Wheeling and George (Melinda) Cole of Wheeling.

Friends will be received Tuesday, February 26, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Msgr. Kevin Quirk officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Stone Church Cemetery, Wheeling.
