STEUBENVILLE -- The alleged victim in the Steubenville rape case appeared "dead" to a number of people who saw her the night of Aug. 11-12, according to text messages sent between students on the night in question and read this afternoon in court.
Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation computer forensics analyst JoAnn Gibb read text messages from seven or eight different people sent between 1 a.m. Aug. 12 through the remainder of that day. The messages begin when the alleged victim and the two juvenile defendants arrived at the final house of the evening.
Gibb resumed her testimony about 2:45 p.m. today, following a one-hour meeting between attorneys and Judge Thomas Lipps in his chambers. The texts include some from the alleged victim.
Some text messages and photos, along with e-mails, were sent from the alleged 16-year-old victim Aug. 12 through her mother's cell phone to phones reportedly belonging to the defendants, witnesses and other individuals. She was reportedly trying to get answers about what happened that night and determine the location of her own cell phone.
