BRIDGEPORT - There was "definitely no meth lab" at the village apartment where three children died during a fire Sunday, Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office spokesman Michael Duchesne said.

He said Tuesday that the fire marshal's office completed collecting evidence at the scene, but said the investigation is not finished. Officials are still awaiting results of the autopsies of the children, ages 2, 4 and 5.

"The cause of the fire is currently undetermined. (They) cannot rule out electrical causes. There is no criminal activity indicated from the investigation conducted alongside Bridgeport Police Department and Bridgeport Fire Department," Duchesne said, putting to rest rumors there was a meth lab inside the building.

Caution tape still blocks the sidewalk in front of the Bridgeport apartment building where three children died in a fire Sunday.

He said the children's parents are in critical condition in a Pittsburgh hospital. He said he does not know if that means they are unconscious. And he also does not know if they are aware their children passed away.

Duchesne said it was not up to the fire marshal's office to release the names of the fire victims. Bridgeport Fire Chief Michael Subasic could not be reached for comment.

The blaze occurred about 10:45 a.m. Sunday in an apartment building located at 3115 Main St., Bridgeport. Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around. It took several firefighter units, including Martins Ferry's ladder truck, many hours to extinguish the blaze.
