TUCKER, Edward Frederick John "Ted", 80, of Wheeling, passed Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at his home.
He was born January 2, 1933, in Buckfastleigh, Devonshire, England, son of the late Edward and Jessie May Elizabeth Wood Tucker.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a son, Edward Charles, brothers, Carlton, William and Derek and a sister, Colleen.
Surviving is his wife, Cathy Cunningham Tucker; a daughter, Ellen Tucker; son, Ian Tucker; sister Dorreen Cain; brother, Alan Tucker and his wife, Liva and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Ted matriculated to the University of London, served in the Korean War under the Royal Army Corps of Engineers and the Royal Army Education Corps. He was valedictorian at West Liberty State College (1965), received his MA in English literature from the University of Illinois, where he was a Woodrow Wilson Scholar, and a PhD in Renaissance and Medieval Studies at Harvard University. He authored several books and many articles and taught at Southern Methodist University, VMI and the Citadel, where he started the first undergraduate Inn of Court in the U.S. and was awarded the Palmetto Medal Award.
Friends will be received on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 10:30 a.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church.
Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
