WLU baseball beats Fairmont

MORGANTOWN - Anthony Pierro doubled home two runs in the top of the 13th Sunday afternoon to give West Liberty (15-13, 13-6) a 6-4 victory against North Division rival Fairmont State in West Virginia Conference baseball action at West Virginia University's Hawley Field.

Pierro had a huge day with two doubles, three singles and a pair of RBIs but the WLU standout had plenty of help as West Liberty raked a trio of Fairmont State hurlers for 17 hits on the afternoon.

WLU softball splits with SH

WEST LIBERTY - Sara Emerich didn't allow an earned run and West Liberty broke out with a 15-hit barrage in pounding out an 8-2 victory against Seton Hill in the first game of a conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the WLU Softball Complex.

The Griffins (5-9, 4-4) salvaged a split by rallying to a 7-5 victory in the finale.

Freshman Taylor Zeiger led the Hilltopper attack with a triple, two singles and three RBI while Janea Cockrell slapped out three singles and chased home a run in the opener.

The shoe was on the other foot for the hosts in the second game as the Hilltoppers scored four times in the bottom of the first but couldn't make the runs hold up. Sumner doubled, singled and drove in a run while Jenn Young had a two-run double in a losing cause.

WJU baseball beats UPJ

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team resumed series play on the road at Pointe Stadium against the University of Pitt-Johnstown on Sunday. The Cardinals pounded out 15 hits the 9-inning series finale for a 13-3 rout of the Mountain Cats. With the victory, Jesuit improved to 7-12 in league play and 10-20 overall, while UPJ fell 17-13, 8-10.

Jordan Krause had four hits and drove in five runs.

Cory Wickham and Patrick Ammar each drove in two runs.

WJU softball swept by SU

WHEELING - The Wheeling Jesuit softball team was back in action on Sunday at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex in a doubleheader against Shepherd University. The Cardinals (4-4, 11-17) fell by scores of 2-1 and 10-3 as the Rams improved to 4-2, 13-17.

Skylar Berger drove in the Cards' lone run in the first game, and Erika Jusko hit a three-run homer for WJU in the nightcap.

Cards' men's lacrosse wins

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse finished a 2-0 weekend in North Carolina by defeating Less-McRae College by a score of 15-3. With the victory, WJU improved to 8-5 overall while handing the Bobcats their 13th loss of the season.

Cards' women's lacrosse falls

WHEELING - The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team fell to the Dragons of Tiffin University on Sunday afternoon by a score of 19-4. As a result, the Cardinals moved to 2-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and 4-6 overall while the Dragons improved to 3-0 in the GLIAC and 5-6 overall.
