Charles Kirchner

KIRCHNER, Charles T., 88, of Glen Dale, W.Va., died on Friday, April 12, 2013 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born March 7, 1925 in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Vincent and Gladys Cornman Kirchner.

Mr. Kirchner was a retired operator from the former LCP Chemical Company and a member of the OCAW, and was a daily altar boy at St. Jude Catholic Church, as well as, a charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the St. Jude Club. He was a member of the Moundsville Knights of Columbus Father Flannigan Council 1907 and Monsignor Coglin Assembly No. 1430 Fourth Degree. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, a member of American Legion Post 3, Moundsville and loved spending time in his garden.

In addition to his parents he was preceded death by four brothers, Paul C., Joseph E., David and Lawrence Kirchner; three sisters, Virginia Dixon, Clara Recz and Gertrude Gibbs; a grandson, Todd Kirchner; and two infant daughters.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years Alberta I. "Henderson" Kirchner; two sons, Charles T. "Tom" (Pamela) Kirchner of Roanoke, VA and Douglas Lee (Susan) Kirchner of Wheeling; a daughter, Cheryl (Frank) Gooch of Glen Dale; a brother, Vincent E. (Esther) Kirchner of Maryland; a sister, Caroline (Charles) Platt of California; five grandchildren, Allison, Daniel, Chad, Natalie and Nolan Kirchner; and one great-granddaughter, Delaney Kirchner.

Friends will be received on Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, where a Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at St. Jude Catholic Church, Glen Dale with Rev. Symeon Galazka, O.S.B., Oliv. as celebrant.

Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contribution may be made to either St. Jude Catholic Church or The Children's Home of Wheeling, 1 Orchard Road, Wheeling, W.Va.
