GLEN DALE - Amy Rotriga hit a go-ahead two-run double in the fifth inning, then slammed the door the last three frames in relief of starting pitcher Alissa Blake as John Marshall beat Wheeling Park, 8-3, in high school softball action Monday.
Marissa Tucker tripled and drove in three runs in the top of the second inning that tied the score, but that was all she wrote for the Patriots (14-4) offensively.
Jackie Gellner singled, doubled and drove in two. Kristin Lewicki singled and doubled, Athena Sayrie had a pair of singles and an RBI, and Sis George singled twice and drove in a run for the Monarchs (22-3), the top-ranked Class AAA team in the West Virginia Sports Writers High School Softball Poll.
Kelly Albers added a pair of singles for the Patriots, who were touched up for five runs in the last two JM at-bats.
