Alvy Tustin

TUSTIN, Alvy Earnest (Ernie), 83, of Middlebourne passed away peacefully at his home April 14, 2013.

He was born February 20, 1930, in Middlebourne, the son of the late Jacob and Maude Freeland Tustin.

Tustin was a biologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and retired in December 1985. Prior to that, he was a school teacher at Willow Fork and Friendly in Tyler County. Tustin was a graduate of Tyler County High School and had a bachelor of science degree from Glenville State College. He also had a master's degree in botany from West Virginia University.

Ernie was a member of the Masons in Middlebourne and a Veteran of the Korean War where he was stationed in Alaska. He loved nature and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of the East Street United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a cousin, Virginia Spencer.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Reaser Tustin; two sons, David Allen Tustin and his wife, Darlene Champ Tustin, Michael Kevin Tustin; and two grandchildren, Scott Andrew and Carolyn Karen.

Friends will be received at Furbee Funeral Home Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dennis Mehaffie officiating.

Interment in Middlebourne Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by VFW Post 6327, Sistersville, VFW Post 4634, New Martinsville, American Legion Post 67, Sistersville, American Legion Post 86, Paden City, and American Legion Post 28, New Martinsville.
