DICKMAN, Mary Ellen Thoman Cochran, 88, of Wheeling, WV, went home to Jesus on Monday, April 15, 2013.
She was born July 25, 1924, in Wheeling, youngest daughter of the late Fred and Mary Strauss Thoman. She had three older brothers, Charlie, Joe, and Oscar and a sister Agnes.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Hazlett Cochran (1980); and second husband, Charles J. Dickman Jr. (2005).
She attended St. Alphonsus grade school and St. Joseph Academy. After finishing Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing, she worked six months as a stewardess for American Airlines before returning to Wheeling Hospital to work until she and Haze started a family.
After raising her family, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Washington, PA, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program in Wheeling. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, where she participated in Christian Mothers and Carrol Ladies. She was also a member of the Wheeling Hospital Nurses Alumni Assoc.
Surviving are her eight children, Brenda (Paul) Powers of PA; Beverly (Gary) Ridgewell of NC; Barbara (Pat) Ball of Wheeling; Bridget (Ken) Skinner of ID; Babette (Tony) Landeen of OH; Barry (Suzette) Cochran of LA; Brian (Kristie) Cochran of VA; Byron (Ann) Cochran of MD; six step-children, Charles (Cindy) Davies of CA; Chris (Marta) Montgomery of CA; Candace Rathburn of CA; Cindy (Rex) Patterson of WA; Cathy (Michael) Benson of WA; Connie Dickman of CA; 43 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling, where Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. Jeremiah McSweeney as celebrant.
Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
