Jack Cartwright

CARTWRIGHT, Jack E., age 79, of Paden City, WV, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, WV.

He was born August 14, 1933 in New Haven, WV, the son of the late William and Kathorine Wolf Cartwright.

Jack was a retired steelworker at Weirton Steel, a member of the Steelton Church of Christ in New Martinsville, and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He played for Ernest Tubb's record shop, a TV show in Oak Hill, WV and the Wheeling Jamboree. He loved to sing and had a number 1 hit song, "One Minute." Jack was also awarded a certificate for singing country music for 50 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Love.

Survivors include Josephine Cartwright; a daughter, Tammy Cartwright Thackston of Pawley's Island, SC; two sons, Jack (Laura) Cartwright of Wileyville, WV and Todd (Kitty) Cartwright of New Martinsville; seven grandchildren, Tyler Thackston, Alex Thackston, Josie Thackston, Alexis Cartwright, Brody Cartwright, Taylor Clem and Payden Clem; and a sister, Billie June Hayes of New Haven, WV.

Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Evangelist Ed Melott officiating.

Interment to follow in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville, where the combined Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.
