Wheeling Park Career, Tech Students Honored

The Wheeling Park High School Career and Technical Awards were presented Thursday in the Phyllis A. Beneke Theater at the school.

Students were recognized in the fields of administrative support, office administrative support, computer systems support, system software support, graphic design, ProStart, child development, careers in education, power systems, automotive technology, welding technology, health occupations science technology, electronics technology, broadcasting technology, graphic communications, general building construction and collision repair technology.

In addition, 12 seniors were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society during the ceremony.

Those students were Adrienne Ackerman, Evan Bender, Ashley Burris, Allyson Conrad, Joseph Eldridge, Samuel Ellifritt, Jacob Gibson, Kyle Lindsey, Benjamin Peace, Casey Pfister, Austin Protiva and Haley Robb. Former WPHS student Randy Stephens was inducted posthumously.

According to Stephanie Bugaj, WPHS assistant principal and head of the career and technical program, students selected for the National Technical Honor Society must meet a 3.0 grade point average or above in the career and technical program as well as the rest of their courses.

"All our students in our career and technical programs are very hard workers," Bugaj said. "Our programs are not only preparing them for their concentration, they are also preparing them to be good employees when they leave us."
