George Peters

PETERS, George Albert "Al," 87 of Enola, PA, died Sunday, April 21, 2013.

Born January 30, 1926 in Elm Grove, WV, he was the son of the late George N. and Helen G. (Ware) Peters.

Al was a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School, Wheeling, WV, and received his bachelor's degree in forestry from West Virginia University. He began his career working with Connor & Amos in West Virginia before moving to Pennsylvania. Al retired from regional sales with McHutchinson Horticultural Distribution serving the greater NJ, PA, DE, MD and VA areas.

Al was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was a life member of the West Shore Elks Lodge #2257 and served as past exalted ruler. In addition, Al was a member of the New Cumberland VFW Post 7415; Enola American Legion Post 751; Knights of Columbus Council 12404 and the Enola Sportsman Association.

Al is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jane (Hulscher) Peters; two sons, Thomas A. Peters of Mayflower, AR, and George Nicholas Peters II and his wife Cordelia of Enola, PA; a sister, Elizabeth R. Dietrich of Elm Grove, WV; five grandchildren, a great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Gaughenbaugh.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Enola, PA. Viewing held from 5:30-7:45 p.m. Wednesday at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, PA. Burial will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110; or to the Elks National Foundation, 108 St. Johns Church Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
