WATKINS, Leslie E. "Jack" Jr., 86, of New Martinsville, WV, left this life to be with his family on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV.
"Jack" was born August 1, 1926 in New Martinsville, WV, son of the late Leslie E. "Smiley" and Ethel Haines Watkins Sr.
He was a retired chemist, having worked for Ormet, Liquified Coal Development Corp. and Foot Mineral. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry from West Liberty State College, and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the medical corps. He loved sports with his favorites being the Detroit Tigers, the Pittsburgh Steelers and all Magnolia High School sports. He was a member of New Martinsville Moose Lodge #931 and Paden City American Legion Post #86 and a member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Watkins Rector; a brother, Harry Lee Watkins; and a niece, LeeAnn Watkins Schambach.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara Watkins; five children: Michael "Zip" (Denise) Watkins of Midlothian, VA, Leslie (Mark) Frazier of Clarksburg, WV, Brenda Watkins of San Francisco, CA, Matt (Heather) Watkins of Morgantown, WV, and Christie (Ed) Priem of New Martinsville, WV; 14 grandchildren: Hannah Watkins Gilifillan, Caleb Watkins, Jacob Watkins, Rebecca Schmoyer, Meredith Frazier, Alysia "Rosebud" Burke, Heath Frazier, Annika Watkins, Khori Paige Lowther, Parker Watkins, Riley Watkins, Preston Watkins, Nick Priem and Lexi Priem; seven great-grandchildren: Dylan Schmoyer, Tyler Schmoyer, Brady Schmoyer, Landon Frazier, Lola Victoria Burke, Rory Gilifillan and Maeve Gilifillan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Homes, 1224 S. Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV.
