WHEELING - Wheeling Police say Robert Daniel Lawson stalked another man in the street and stabbed him Wednesday night following an argument between the two at a bar on Wheeling Island.

Ohio County Magistrate Harry Radcliffe arraigned Lawson this morning on a single count of malicious wounding. Lawson, 27, of Wheeling, remained in the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville at press time in lieu of $30,000 bond.

Four Wheeling police patrol units and a supervisor responded to the reported stabbing at Iowa Street around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. The officers were waved down by the alleged victim, who was bleeding from a wound to the back of his arm.

The man told police that Lawson had fled into a nearby house. Officers located Lawson and placed him under arrest. Police said they collected evidence at the scene and later at police headquarters, but did not specify if that evidence included the weapon.

The alleged victim, whose name was not released at press time, told officers that an altercation erupted between he and Lawson at a local bar. The victim left to avoid any further confrontation, he told police, but Lawson followed him. A fight ensued and Lawson allegedly stabbed the man.

The injured man was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injury.
