Ernest Phillips

PHILLIPS, Ernest Walter, 91, of Wheeling, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Bishop Joseph H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling.

He was born in New Martinsville, WV, May 27, 1921 son of the late Ernest W. Phillips, Sr. and Frances Grimm Phillips.

He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 28 of Wheeling and the Circus Saints and Sinners of Wheeling.

He retired from Sears Roebuck after 43 years of service. He was a WWII Army veteran with the 17th Signal Battalion Corp. He served in all five of the major campaigns including the Normandy Landings.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bert Phillips; and two infant children, Dianne Regina Phillips and Gary Ernest Phillips.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years Evelyn Cupp Phillips; a daughter, Donna Lee Schell and her husband, Alfred of Wheeling; three grandchildren, Amy Dianne Schell (Brian), Rachel R. Baxter (Gene), and Kristen Elizabeth Kupsky (Jay) all of Wheeling; five great-grandchildren, Cali Morgan (Logan) Polen, Zachary Wesley Kupsky, Braydon David Kupsky, Bryce Avery Baxter and Alfred Robert "Freddie" Schell-Myers all of Wheeling; a niece, Gail Atkinson and a nephew, Mark Phillips; three loyal friends, Mike Vargo, Nardy Lipscher, and Baird Kloss.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at BHCCC for their kindness, compassion and care of Ernie.

Friends will be received on Monday, April 29, 2013, from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311).

Interment at the convenience of the family at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, WV with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to BHCCC Resident Council, Medical Park, Wheeling, WV 26003.
