WHEELING - Melody Fisher pleaded guilty this morning to planning and attempting to rob the Elm Grove Pharmacy in May 2012 - a crime that turned fatal when a store employee shot her co-conspirator, Kevin Walnoha, inside the business.
Fisher, 41, of Beech Bottom, pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. The robbery charge carries a minimum 10-year prison sentence and a maximum of life. The conspiracy charge carries a one- to five-year sentence.
The prosecution is expected to recommend a 30-year prison term, according to the terms of a plea agreement, during a May 15 sentencing hearing in front of Ohio County Circuit Judge James Mazzone.
Fisher's trial was scheduled to begin Wednesday in front of Mazzone.
According to prosecutors, Fisher cased the pharmacy minutes before an armed Walnoha entered the building on May 25. Fisher was in the parking lot in the getaway car when a store employee shot and killed Walnoha.
