William Thalman

THALMAN, William Harold Sr., 80, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2013, at Liza's Place.

Bill was born on December 21, 1932, in Wheeling, a son to the late Raymond Thalman Sr. and Leona Bentz Thalman.

He was a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School and received an honorary degree from John Carroll University. Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Bill was the retired President and CEO of Warwood Armature Repair Company and Warco Sales. He served on the Board of Directors for Security National Bank and Trust, J.P. Morgan Chase, R.M. Wilson Company and Trident Distribution Laboratories.

He was a member of St. Michael's Parish, Knights of Columbus Carroll Council 504, Wheeling Elks Lodge, and the Belmont Hills Country Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Frank, Raymond, and Robert Thalman.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia "Pat" Weigand Thalman; one son, William H. Thalman Jr. (Paula) of Canonsburg, Pa.; three daughters, Judith Grob (Jay) of Wheeling, Diane Schnupp (Dr. Paul) of Chalfont, Pa., and Kathleen Witzberger (Larry) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Mary Jane Schuetz of Wheeling; one brother-in-law, Paul Weigand of Wheeling; one sister-in-law, Mary Schnupp Thalman of Atlanta, Ga.

Bill enjoyed spending time and giving clever advice to his 10 grandchildren; Chad Thalman, Matt Thalman (Annie), Tegan Thalman, Kendra Thalman, Jennifer Grob, Jason Grob, David Schnupp Mark Schnupp, Adam Witzberger, and Samantha Witzberger; two step-grandchildren, Grant Waldron, and Max Waldron; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill enjoyed spending time with family and friends with many special memories at Seven Springs and Florida. He had a competitive spirit and enjoyed golfing, card playing, and cheering on his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Friends will be received on Monday, May 20, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. Jeremiah McSweeney as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
