CLARKSBURG, W.Va. - The West Virginia Municipal Home Rule board this morning approved Wheeling's plan to impose a 0.5-percent sales tax on most goods and services in the city.

The vote was unanimous. City Manager Robert Herron said City Council will now hear first reading of an ordinance enacting the tax on June 4 with a public hearing and vote on June 18. Simultaneous legislation scaling back the city's business and occupation tax will also be proposed, he said.
