Lorraine VanPelt

VANPELT, Lorraine M. (Rogers), 96 of Wheeling, WV, formerly of Wellsburg, WV, joined her heavenly family on Sunday, May 26, 2013, just three days short of her 97th Birthday at Bishop Joseph Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling, WV.

Lorraine was born on May 29, 1916 in Keyser, WV. She was the daughter of the late James Sanford and Grace Mae (Junkins) Rogers.

Lorraine was a graduate of West Liberty State College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.

Lorraine retired in 1977 from the Brooke County School System as an Elementary Teacher after 19 years of service.

Lorraine was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Wellsburg, WV, where she was a former member of the choir.

In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her brother John E. Rogers and two sisters, Mildred Davison and Katherine Weeks.

Lorraine is survived by two sons, Dr. Byron (Rebecca) VanPelt and Samuel E. VanPelt, two daughters, Judith Miller and Sharon L. Calmbacher, all of Wheeling, WV, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a stepbrother, James Rogers, a stepsister, Lillian Jennings, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551.

Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Brooke Cemetery, Wellsburg.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Bishop Hodges Continuous Care Center for the wonderful and devoted care of their mother.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Bishop Hodges Continuous Care Center, 600 Medical Park, Wheeling, WV 26003.
