WHEELING - Drivers traveling W.Va. 2, U.S. 250 and Interstate 70 can continue to expect delays as crews continue to work on sign renovation and joint repair projects around downtown Wheeling.
Mandy Crow, administrative secretary to the West Virginia Division of Highways District 6 engineer, said the projects are moving along as planned.
"Work on U.S. 250 (W.Va. 2) between 16th Street and I-70 consists of repairing and resurfacing the roadway," Crow said Wednesday. "They are working on joint repair, cutting bad sections of road, filling them in with concrete and stabilizing it."

Crews with Shelly & Sands Inc. of Zanesville, Ohio, continue making road repairs on W.Va. 2 at the Interstate 70 interchange. Traffic detours continue to plague motorists as various road construction projects take place.
Crow said the project is 29-30 percent complete. She said Kelly Paving of Williamstown, W.Va., is the contractor for the work, and the expected completion date is July 12. The cost for the joint repair is $1.7 million.
As far as detours are concerned, Crow said different sections of W.Va. 2 are closed on a daily basis and the detours change with them. She said signs are posted to tell drivers which way to go.
Work on the Fort Henry Bridge, Crow said, is part of a large project aimed at replacing signs over all four lanes of traffic. She said the project began May 13 and is expected to be finished by July 14.
While the construction manager for the project was not available for comment, Crow said the work required closing the westbound entrance ramp to the bridge from Main Street as well as walkways on the bridge.
She said the current footers holding signs above the roadway have to be demolished before being replaced, a process that warrants precautions.
A construction projects status update document from the West Virginia Department of Transportation states contractors are also installing a new lighting system for the overhead signs. The project is 48 percent complete, and the contractor is Nationwide Construction Group, RMD Holdings of Chesterfield, Mich. The cost is $3.9 million.
Drivers traveling south on Main Street and trying to get onto I-70 westbound will be detoured south to 10th Street before crossing over to the Market Street entrance to the bridge. Crow said signs also are posted to redirect pedestrian traffic.
