George Truax

TRUAX, George Thomas, age 83, of Canton passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 30, 1930 in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late Frank and Aurelia Grubler Truax.

George graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic High School in 1949. He served his country in the U.S. 7th Army 3075th Chemical Smoke Generator Company during the Korean Conflict. George worked for Harrison Paint from 1970 to 1978 and retired from Stewart Brothers Paint after 49 years in the Paint Business.

He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and Belden Village AARP Chapter #4196 where he held various offices. George loved football especially Notre Dame. He also enjoyed home improvements and had a great sense of humor and was always putting other people first.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; brothers, Elmer, Vincent, Harry, Bernard, Francis and Edward; sister, Aurelia Jones. George is survived by his three sons, Larry (Julie) of Madison, IN, David (Susan) of Canton and Tim of Canton; three daughters, Joan (Jeff) Smith of Green, Karin (Dr. Jerry) Stetz of Columbus, and Pam (Mark) Walton of Wadsworth; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and special companion of nearly 13 years, Karen Garbarino of Massillon.

Calling hours will be held in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel on Sunday, June, 30, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Monday, July 1, 2013 in the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4940 W. Tuscarawas St. Canton, Ohio 44708 with Rev. Fr. Robert Laterman celebrant.

Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the American Lung Association or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
