All of the exotic pets released inside an Elm Grove apartment Tuesday by a man who allegedly was high on bath salts have been accounted for, Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said Wednesday.
Police found Kasey J. Smith naked and bleeding around 6 a.m. Tuesday behind an apartment building at 2194 National Road. A resident of the building had reported a disturbance after hearing Smith tear through a friend's apartment.
Police said Smith shattered glass tanks that housed the resident's pet tarantulas and boa constrictors. Some of the pets were believed to be unaccounted for Tuesday afternoon. That has since changed.

"Finally, after receiving erroneous information (Tuesday) morning related to the exotic pets in the apartment in question, the Wheeling Police Department is confident that all the pets in question have been located and do not pose any threat to the community," Schwertfeger said.
Smith, 26, of McMechen has been charged with indecent exposure, public intoxication, burglary and destruction of property. He also was charged with simple possession from a warrant out of Marshall County. He was booked into the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville on $11,000 bond.
