Police on Thursday arrested six of 13 individuals indicted Wednesday by a Marshall County grand jury.

Circuit Judge Mark Karl arraigned six people Thursday on drug charges.

"The cases all are drug related, dealing with the distribution of prescription controlled substances, cocaine and heroin," said Prosecutor Jeff Cramer.

The Marshall County Drug Task Force - consisting of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, the Moundsville Police Department, Drug Enforcement Agency, Marshall County Prosecutor's Office and the West Virginia State Police - set out early Thursday to serve 13 warrants after the grand jury handed down the sealed indictments Wednesday. Six of them had been served as of Thursday afternoon.

Officials began serving the warrants just after sunrise Thursday, going to the homes of the indicted. Cramer said the names of the seven individuals not found would be released once they are arrested.

"Per capita, we have an extraordinary rate of young persons overdosing and dying from the use of these drugs, particularly prescription pills," Cramer said. "This is just the first step in trying to get some of the alleged dealers off the streets."

Those arrested include:

The defendants are scheduled to return to court July 25.
