Maxie McAdams

McADAMS, Maxie I., age 87, of New Martinsville, WV, died Friday, July 26, 2013, at her home.

She was born November 23, 1925, in Pikeville, KY, a daughter of the late Ray Chester and Ethel Lee Cox Johnson.

She was a tailor for Signal Mountain Knitting Mill and a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, New Martinsville.

Maxie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family very much. Her favorite things in life were her family, fishing, mowing her grass and doing yard work.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene J. McAdams; a daughter, Jo Ann Compton; four brothers, William, Hollis, Ray Jr., and Doyle Johnson; and two sisters, Frances Johnson and Doris Jean Williams.

Survivors include two sons, Doug (Barbara) McAdams of New Martinsville and James "J.D." McAdams of the home; four grandchildren, Randy (Dorothy) McAdams of Sistersville, WV, Christopher (Rilla) McAdams of New Martinsville, WV, Jason (Courtney) Compton of Texas and Tracy Eddy of WV; 10 great-grandchildren, Hunter and Tanner McAdams, Remie and Josie McAdams, Jason Compton II, Johanna Compton, Samantha, Aron, Samara and Torie Eddy; four sisters, Geraldine Stroud of IN, Emma Jewell McAdams of TN, Shirley Harrell of CO, and Dorothy Huggins of AL; and one brother, Harold Wayne Johnson of NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville, WV, where services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. with her brother, Harold Wayne Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.
