WHEELING - Authorities continue to investigate a possible attempted abduction that happened just before midnight Saturday.

According to a Wheeling police report, officers responded to a report of the possible abduction in Warwood at 11:31 p.m. Saturday. The incident allegedly occurred on the bike path between North Third and Fourth streets.

A female told officers a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and red shorts ran up behind her while she was walking on the trail. She told officers she believed the subject was attempting to grab her, causing her to flee the area.

Seven police officers were joined by sheriff's deputies and State Police troopers. While searching the area, officers believed the subject may have been hiding on the river bank. They used a thermal camera from the Wheeling Fire Department to search the river area, but found nothing.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
