LITTLETON - One person was shot Tuesday evening during an apparent domestic dispute on Earnshaw Road that resulted in a standoff between the gunman and Wetzel County sheriff's deputies.
According to unconfirmed reports, deputies responded to an address not far from Long Drain School around 8 p.m. for a report of a man in his yard armed with a gun. The man reportedly engaged deputies in a standoff for some time, refusing to drop the weapon.
One victim reportedly was shot in the arm. The identities of the shooter and victim were not released, but the dispute appeared to stem from a domestic incident.
It was unclear at press time whether any arrest had been made, but a dispatcher said the situation had been resolved before 10:45 p.m.
Authorities reportedly closed a portion of nearby W.Va. 7 during the standoff.
A dispatcher at the Wetzel County 911 center confirmed the shooting but could not provide any details. Attempts to reach Sheriff John Brookover and other county officials late Tuesday were unsuccessful.
