More than 100 children watched as an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter landed on the sports field next to the J.B. Chambers Memorial YMCA in Elm Grove on Wednesday.
Child Care Director Brian Blazier said it was a last-minute decision to bring the Air Evac crew to the facility as part of its "Fun in the Sun" camp's career week. Blazier said organizers decided to add the medical helicopter to the week's events after YMCA volunteer Jennifer Francis - a flight nurse with Air Evac - offered to arrange a stop by the flight crew.
After landing and securing the helicopter, Francis joined pilot Jason Cassell and flight paramedic Jason Milton to talk with the children about their occupations and answer questions.

Each child then was given the chance to sit inside the medical helicopter.
Francis said the Air Evac crew frequently makes public relations stops at schools and community events. She said they were glad to be a part of the camp's career week activities.
Blazier said a variety of educational theme days highlighted the summer camp, including a Science Week. He said this is the final week for the camp, but the YMCA will be offering the "Fun in the Sun" summer camp again next year.
