By SHELLEY HANSON Staff Writer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

The Wheeling Board of Zoning Appeals approved a request for AutoZone to install a 60-foot sign at its future 2122 National Road location, said Tom Connelly, assistant director of the Wheeling Economic and Community Development Department.

Board members unanimously approved AutoZone representative Brian Siddall's request for a variance from the usual maximum sign height of 25 feet during their Thursday meeting.

After the meeting, board member Sherry Sligar said the new AutoZone is expected to be constructed near the existing Advance Auto Parts store and Dairy Queen.

She noted Advance Auto already has a tall sign and AutoZone wanted to install a sign similar in height.

Meanwhile, board members approved a variance request from Michael and Alyssa Duplaga, representing Generations Restaurant and Pub at 338 National Road, to allow for the construction of a walkway and deck in a floodway.

Sligar noted no one from the public attended the meeting to talk about either item.
