Arrest Everyone Involved in Scheme

August 23, 2013
The Intelligencer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Federal authorities say Mingo County Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury was tireless and inventive in his attempts to frame his secretary's husband. While having an affair with the woman, Thornsbury enlisted several other people, including a State Police trooper, in his scheme, prosecutors say.

Thornsbury has been charged with crimes in connection with the allegations. None of his co-conspirators has been charged, however.

Why not? Among those allegedly involved were a trooper, a police officer in the town of Gilbert, Mingo County's homeland security director and others. Investigations are proceeding but, again, published reports have stated there are no plans to file charges against others who, like Thornsbury, abused the public's trust and attempted to ruin an innocent man's life.

Some of those involved already have been suspended from their jobs. That isn't enough.

If the problem is that prosecutors do not believe they have enough evidence to win convictions of the alleged co-conspirators, they should say so.

Otherwise, all involved should be arrested. Both because the rat's nest of corruption in Mingo County needs to be cleaned up and in order to do justice to the victim in this case, everyone who helped Thornsbury should be punished as severely as the law allows.
