Whipkeys to Mark 50th

Nelson and Bonnie Whipkey of Moundsville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Sept. 7.

They were united in marriage Sept. 7, 1963 at First Christian Church, Cameron, with the Rev. C. Edward Willis officiating the ceremony.

Bonnie Whipkey is the daughter of the late Melvin and Eldora Bonar of Cameron. She is a 1963 graduate of Cameron High School. She worked for C&P Telephone Co. in Washington, D.C., as a long-distance operator. Currently, she is a receptionist at Our Place for Family Hair Care in Moundsville.

Nelson Whipkey is the son of Don Whipkey of Cameron and the late Betty Lilley of Cameron. He graduated from Cameron High School in 1961 and attended West Liberty State College. He enlisted in the Marine Corps; while serving in the Ceremonial Guard Company in Washington, D.C., he had the privilege of being a pallbearer for President Herbert Hoover and Gen. Douglas MacArthur and served in the funeral procession of President John F. Kennedy. He is retired from Bayer Corp, Natrium.

They are the parents of three children. The family includes Stephanie of Wheeling, Greg of Moundsville and Tim and his wife, Amy, of Winchester, Va.

They have four grandchildren.

They will celebrate their anniversary at First Christian Church, Cameron, from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31. They also will celebrate with a trip to Hawaii at a later date.
