Larry Watson's preliminary hearing on a malicious wounding charged was delayed Friday in Wetzel County Magistrate Court.
Watson, 64, was charged following a standoff with police near Littleton earlier this month.
According to the police report, Watson had driven to an area residence where he spoke to a man and a woman. Once the woman returned to the inside of the residence, Watson allegedly exited his vehicle and fired a 9 mm pistol several times at the man, striking the man once in the right shoulder. The victim was able to take several steps back to the residence, but then collapsed by the front door.
Watson stayed outside in the yard several minutes before the police arrived. Watson and police were involved in a standoff for more than 90 minutes before he was taken into custody. The victim was taken by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Watson's bond was set at $100,000, with a preliminary hearing set for Friday. However, that hearing was continued on a defense motion. A new hearing date has not yet been set.
Watson's son, Larry Virgil Watson, 41, also faces charges stemming from the incident. Authorities said the incident occurred after the arrest of the elder Larry Watson. He is charged with assault and battery of a police officer.
