Benjamin Ackerman

ACKERMAN, Benjamin Harrison, 85, of Wheeling, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at Liza's Place.

He was born December 14, 1927 in Wheeling, son of the late Benjamin and Vesta Huff Ackerman.

Ackerman was a retired mechanic from OVRTA and U.S. Army veteran. He was a Sergeant and a combat infantryman serving with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea in 1951 and 1952.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Gaus Ackerman, and five sisters, Eleanor A. Murphy, Beverly A. Wallace, Betty A. Keller, Dorothy M. Ackerman, and Shirley A. Davis.

He is survived by a son, Carl B. Ackerman and his wife, Janet L. of Morgantown; a daughter, Vickie Shaw and her husband, Jeff of Wheeling; grandsons, Joseph Buffington of Pittsburgh, and Ian Shaw of Wheeling; granddaughters, Stephanie Ackerman of Charlotte, NC, and Shannon Ackerman of Morgantown.

Friends will be received Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311).

Interment in Park View Memorial Gardens with military honors.
