Edith Baxter

BAXTER, Edith G. (Wade), 86, of Proctor, WV, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Country Club Retirement Campus, Bellaire, Ohio.

Edith was born on June 8, 1927 in Hundred, WV. She was the daughter of the late Lonzy and Bertha (Mason) Wade.

During WWII Edith worked in an airplane factory. She married George R. Baxter on January 31, 1947 and became a devoted wife and mother, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a wonderful cook, making her special dishes for family occasions. Edith's greatest joy was time spent with her loved ones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David R. Baxter in 1955; and her siblings, Norman Wade, Stanley Wade, Geraldine Briggs, Eugene Wade, Betty Weigle and Kathleen Cline.

Surviving is her loving husband of 66 years, George R. Baxter; her children, Donna Jo (Robert) Morrison of Oak Hill, VA,, Michael (Kathleen) Baxter of Proctor, WV, Linda (Ronald) Leasure of Harrodsburg, KY, Mark (Pam) Baxter of New Martinsville, and Terry (Darlene) Baxter of Clemmons, NC; eight grandchildren, Brandy Becker, Carissa Goddard, Jenifer Bolen, Jason Baxter, Ronda Sears, Patricia Hunt, Ross Baxter and Rachel Mabe; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and also on Friday from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, with Rev. Russ Whitener officiating.

Interment to follow in Baxter Cemetery, Newman Ridge, Proctor, WV.
