MORRIS, Donald E. "Peck," 93, of Moundsville, formerly of Boggs Run, Benwood, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born in Benwood, WV, on October 1, 1919, son of the late Minnie Magdaline Morris and stepfather, Earl P. Cameron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, and his brother, Paul Francis "Bill" Morris.

Don attended Union High School. He was a WWII Army veteran, serving as a machine gunner and amphibious tractor operator with the 773rd Amphibian Tractor Battalion, 6th Armored Division. He served in the Pacific Theatre, with his unit participating in the battles of Saipan, Tinian, and the invasion at Okinawa, for which he and his unit received many medals and awards.

He retired after 40 years of work from the Triangle Conduit. Don was a lifelong member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Boggs Run, a Boggs Run Volunteer Fireman, and a member of American Legion Post 46 for over 30 years in Benwood, WV.

Don was a Pirates fan and loved baseball in general. He coached various age levels in the Village of Bethlehem for over 12 years.

Don is survived by a son, Donald P. (Leslie) Morris of Wheeling; two daughters, Dona "Sue" (Bob) Thornburg of Valley Grove, and Amanda "Mandy" Morris Crow of Wheeling; six grandchildren, Megan (Ryan) Vizzini of Pittsburgh, Edmund Ross (Stephani) Turner of Gardner, KS, Doctors Matthew (Emily) Morris, Michelle Turner, Tyler Crow and Jordan Crow all of Wheeling; five great-grandchildren, Avery and Eowyn Turner, Olivia Vizzini, and William and Quinn Morris; a brother, Richard (Sharon) Cameron; sisters, Darlene (Melvin) Stephens of Wheeling, Patsy (Lee) Glessner of Wheeling, and Delores (Roger) Pfefferman of Pittsburgh; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Friends will be received Wednesday, October 2, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311), where services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Margie Carr officiating. Entombment at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens.

Graveside military service will be conducted by Moundsville Honor Guard.
