Ruby Richey

RICHEY, Ruby Ruth Riggle, 94, of Wheeling, WV, formerly of Dallas, WV, and West Alexander, PA, died October 1, 2013.

She was born May 5, 1919, on No. 2 Ridge, Dallas, WV, daughter of the late James D. and Minnie P. Scott Riggle.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a homemaker. Ruby enjoyed baking, entered baked goods at the West Alexander Fair and enjoyed singing. She was a member of a group called the Melodaires which sang at various places in the 1970s.

She was an active member of her community most of her life. She held offices in several organizations, including PTA, Band Boosters, Dallas Senior Citizens, Sand Hill Homemakers and a member of the West Finley (PA) Grange. Ruby was involved with the Democratic Committee for several years and worked with the elections and was a census enumerator in 1960 and 1970.

In 1982, she initiated contact with a newspaper in Dallas, TX, asking for financial assistance for repairs to the community center in Dallas, WV. An article in the Dallas, TX, newspaper resulted in donations which were used to renovate the Dallas Community Center.

Ruby was a member of the Dallas United Methodist Church, West Alexander United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Dallas Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for approximately 25 years, sang in the choirs and served on several boards and committees of the churches.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Glenn Richey on May 4, 1991 whom she married on May 26, 1937.

She is survived by three children, Raymond Glenn (Patty Allum) of Canton, OH, Marjorie Elizabeth Richey of Wheeling, WV and James David Richey (Jeannie Rogers) of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, Debra Grosschmidt (Andrew), Kevin Richey; Heather Stonecipher (Stephen), Heidi Duckwall (Michael), Holli Richey, J. D. Richey (Stephanie); nine great-grandchildren, Ryan Grosschmidt (Jena); Zachary Grosschmidt (Anna), Laurel Mishkin, Adam, Jack and Kyle Duckwall, Sarah Ann Stonecipher, Lucas and Sophie Richey; cousins and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311), with Pastor Larry Lewis officiating.

Interment will be in the West Alexander Cemetery, West Alexander, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Alexander United Methodist Church, the Dallas United Methodist Church or the Dallas Pike Baptist Church.
