Frederick Fonner

FONNER, Frederick "Fred" A., 88, of New Martinsville, WV, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, WV.

"Fred" was born October 3, 1924, in Middlebourne, WV, son of the late James Thurman and Susan B. Coffield Fonner.

He was a retired research chemist for PPG, graduate of Tyler County High School, a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII during the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and Battle of Remagen, served on the Board of the Lincoln Theatre where he helped with the restoration and lighting for many productions, WVU graduate, New Martinsville Water and Sewer Board, active member of the former St. John's United Methodist Church and now a member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne Fonner; grandson, Joshua Fonner; brother, Franklin Fonner and sister, Betty Fonner.

Surviving are four sons, Fred (Penny) Fonner of Woodstock, GA, Dick (Linda) Fonner of New Martinsville, WV, John Fonner of Columbus, OH and Tom (Nova) Fonner of Winston Salem, NC; seven grandchildren, Jessica Fonner, Ben Fonner, Daniel (Staci) Fonner, Chris (Sara) Fonner, Mary Katherine Fonner, Charlie Fonner and Claire Fonner; three great- grandchildren, Emma Blue Fonner, Dylan Fonner and Cassidy Fonner; sister, Laura (Richard) Moore of Asheville, NC and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Homes, 1224 S. Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at New Martinsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Melissa Shortridge officiating.

Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park to be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Fred's name, to The Lincoln Theatre Restoration, 197 Main St., New Martinsville, WV 26155.
