Flu season is approaching, and now is the time to obtain an annual flu shot.
The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department and the Marshall County Health Department have announced times for their upcoming flu shot clinics.
In Marshall County, flu shots are available from 9:30-11 a.m., and again from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at the health department office, located at 513 Sixth St., Moundsville.
The flu clinic will also take place there from 1-4 p.m. Friday. Other clinics are scheduled in various communities. Those needing more information or to schedule a flu shot can call 304-845-7840.
In Ohio County, the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department offers flu shots from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. Flu shot clinics also are scheduled at the following times and locations and are open to the public:
Children without insurance can also be seen and receive a flu shot through the Vaccine for Children program.

"No one is turned away," Health Department Administrator Howard Gamble said.
Seasonal flu shots are offered to individuals 6 months of age and older. Anyone in Ohio County interested in getting a flu shot should call the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department for an appointment at 304-234-3682.
The traditional flu season is counted from the first of November through the end of April, Gamle said.
Vaccination remains the cornerstone of preventing influenza, and it usually takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against influenza virus infection, he noted.
