Girls' Soccer: Hall, Linsly Get Best Of Naughton, Weir

October 8, 2013
The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

WEIRTON - Jessica Naughton and Erica Hall are very familiar with each other though the two friends and former teammates weren't entirely sure what to expect on the pitch during their respective teams' soccer match.

In the end, the Linsly girls controlled the ball for a good bit of the game, and the Cadets were able to get two shots into the net as Linsly shut out Weir 2-0 Monday at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

Naughton and Hall played soccer and basketball together while at Brooke High School.

"Erica was one year older than me," Naughton, Weir's head coach said. "It is nice to play against her. It is nice to see her and to catch up on old times. It is nice to see her doing well coaching soccer."

Grace George and Josie Mosman each netted goals for the Cadets (10-5-1).

The Cadets outshot the Red Riders, 14-2. The Cadets took 11 shots on goal, while the Red Riders (12-6) took two.

Linsly's offensive pressure forced Weir into taking 13 goal kicks. The Cadets took three, all of which came in the first half of play.

Vivian Allison made two saves for the Cadets.
